A rare wooden Baroque theater from the end of the 18th century is the castle interior\u2019s greatest jewel. There are only very few Baroque theaters located throughout Europe. Lit by candles, these small, entirely wooden spaces were often consumed in flame. After a fire, the theater on the castle\u2019s second floor was rebuilt on the ground floor, where it survived centuries without damage, along with its stage technology and a complete set of scenery by Josef Platzer. His painted decorations also graced Vienna\u2019s Burgtheater and Prague\u2019s Estates Theater.<\/p>\n\n

The Baroque theater is used only exceptionally in the festival\u2019s program. The first festival concert in a long time was heard here in 2020, when Smetana\u2019s Litomy\u0161l was organized despite the ongoing pandemic of the deadly COVID-19 virus. The 62nd Smetana\u2019s Litomy\u0161l changed its entire program to be composed of intimate productions \u2013 with a smaller number of performers and naturally smaller audience capacities. However, this made it possible to use the castle\u2019s more precious spaces. In addition to the Baroque theater, there is also the castle\u2019s chapel, which has a truly tiny capacity \u2013 under normal circumstances, presenting performances here would make charging high entrance fees a financial necessity.<\/p>\n\n
