We are honoured to present a gala concert by the Uruguayan bass-baritone, currently one of the most sought-after singers in the world. In the first half of the programme we will hear famous operatic arias and in the second half we will hear a cycle of Argentine and Cuban songs Rojotango, including the famous tango Bésame mucho by the Mexican composer C. Velasquez Torres.
“Just like Charlie Parker, Theo Monk, and even Dizzy Gillespie were reproached for destroying the bebob, Piazzolla was spat upon for being a tango traitor. However, he was actually what Scott Joplin was to ragtime or George Gershwin was to charleston, because he also raised music from dance halls to unexpected heights.”
