Weber’s Missa Sancta No. 1 in E-flat major, “Freischütz-Messe” is an exemplary masterwork of early Romanticism. In the Piarist Church, it will be heard both as a traditional festive thanksgiving mass and as a commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death. The work’s subtitle reflects its musical language, as Weber was simultaneously working on his famous opera Der Freischütz. Under the baton of Alena Hron, a prominent figure in the emerging generation of conductors, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic will perform alongside the Mixed Choir of the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, in collaboration with the Czech Choirmasters’ Choir and Schola Gregoriana Pragensis.
