The ballet evening combines three distinctive choreographies that show femininity in its full breadth – fragile, passionate, combative and strong. The evening will open with a duet to music from Stravinsky’s ballet The Firebird, choreographed by Marc Goecke – a minimalist encounter between two shy creatures in which a relationship full of tension and longing for closeness is born. This is followed by Lea Bessoudo Greck’s choreography Sharka, set to the music of Smetana’s symphonic poem of the same name. The story of a woman’s combativeness and desire for freedom turns into a timeless image of resistance against domination and the struggle for equality. The evening concludes with Jiří Pokorný’s award-winning Carmen – a story of passion, betrayal and death, set in a contemporary industrial environment. The love triangle of Carmen, José and Lady M offers a gripping drama full of emotion and acts as the perfect climax to the evening, which brings together the themes of inner strength and the desire to be oneself.
