The rhythmical pulsation of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, a top Czech pianist with a global career playing Dvořák, and a playful ouverture by Martinů. All of this delivered by a prestigious German orchestra. The Dresdner Philharmonie was founded in 1870 under the name “Philharmonisches Orchester Dresden”. Over the years, the orchestra has evolved and become an important part of Dresden’s cultural life. In the early 20th century, it was led by several prominent conductors and became known not only in Germany but also in other countries. The Philharmonic maintains strong ties to traditional German musical culture, but since its re-establishment after 1990, it has also opened itself to new musical directions and international dialogue.
