The entire Baroque era was marked by inspiring compositional impulses. The work of Johann Sebastian Bach was influenced by many composers, but most of all by the style and compositions of Italian masters, of which namely Antonio Vivaldi.

“Bach did not have the opportunity to visit Italy, the promised land of music, like Schütz or Handel. He did not know the Italian style in connection with the country in which he was born and grew up. He came to know musical Italy as an enchanted admirer, but from home, seated at his desk.”
