An evening dedicated to Schubert, featuring two compositions that are central to both the composer’s chamber output and the global repertoire. For the first time in the Czech republic, the top-level string quartet will perform together with the famous Austrian cellist with Persian roots.
The String Quartet “Death and the Maiden” is one of Schubert’s greatest musical treasures. Combining complex musical form with deep emotional and philosophical content, it is considered one of the pinnacles of Romantic quartet composition and is inseparably linked to the questions of life, death, and human destiny.
The Quintet in C major, which Franz Schubert wrote shortly before his death, is filled with profound emotions. Schubert’s personal situation, his relationship to life and death, and his gratitude for being able to create are all palpable in it. In this respect, it becomes a kind of musical epitaph, blending sadness and joy, nostalgia and hope.
