Outstanding Polish composer Zbigniew Preisner, winner of two Césars for best film music, dedicated this composition to his deceased friend, the famous director Krzysztof Kieślowski.
“Requiem for My Friend, no matter how modern in sound, is quite traditional in its lyrics, using the liturgy of the Catholic mass for the dead. While the first part has a general validity, the second part is Preisner’s confession about the loss of Kieslowski, is very personal and also includes Polish lyrics in tribute to the director. The composer’s instrumentation with saxophone, organ and countertenor may be unconventional, but the effect is sure to give you goosebumps…”
