The Devil’s Wall seems to prove that the composer could “hear the future” – musically, it already peeks into the 20th century. Its spirited and imaginative score brings to life an old South Bohemian legend about a devil’s stone wall, using colors far more modern than one might expect in 1882. The libretto by Eliška Krásnohorská shifts naturally between reality and the realm of imagination. The production by the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno, directed by Jiří Heřman, builds on a powerful mythical atmosphere. Audiences can look forward to appearances by Kateřina Kněžíková, Václava Krejčí Housková, Peter Berger, and Roman Hoza.
