Since its 1874 premiere, this sparkling tale about mistaken identity and the perils of seemingly innocent flirtation has delighted audiences on the world’s leading stages, including the Metropolitan opera and the Vienna State Opera. Amid disguises, misunderstandings, and small deceptions at Prince Orlofsky’s masquerade ball, Dr. Falke orchestrates his “revenge of the Bat,” revealing how carefree amusement can unexpectedly turn into genuine feelings. This production by the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre Brno, directed by Vojtěch Orenič and conducted by Ondrej Olos, continues the tradition of classic Viennese operetta, presenting it to contemporary audiences with witty and light-hearted exaggeration.
Staged in Czech translation with Czech, English and German surtitles.
